Opera & Gelato Film Festival

The Opera and Gelato Film Festival is back for a third summer! This collection of opera film screenings is the perfect way to get a summertime opera fix while escaping the Arizona heat. The screenings will take place on the fourth Sunday of June, July, and August, held in Arizona Opera’s Witcoff Black Box Theater. To sweeten the deal, FROST Gelato will be available for purchase.

Fidelio

The festival closes out with a screening of Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, with a recording of the 2015 Salzburg Festival production featuring tenor Jonas Kaufmann. Beethoven worked and reworked the opera to get it just right, and we are left with a beautiful setting of the heroic tale of a courageous woman that disguises herself in an attempt to free her husband from death in prison.

Running Time: 2 hours, 45 minutes (including one intermission)
