Clint Borzoni has written over seventy pieces, including two full-length operas, two one-act operas, a piano concerto, percussion quartet, work for orchestra, two string quartets, several works for chamber orchestra and over forty art songs. His music reflects his passion for lyricism and functional harmony.
Operatic works include Margot Alone in the Light, an adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s story All Summer in a Day; and Antinous and Hadrian, originally conceived of in the American Opera Projects Composer and the Voice Series and later commissioned and further developed by operamission. He has collaborated with librettist John de los Santos on the opera When Adonis Calls, constructed from the poetry of Gavin Geoffrey Dillard, which was a winner in the Fort Worth Opera’s Frontiers competition in 2015. His new opera with de los Santos, The Copper Queen, was chosen as the winner of Arizona Opera’s inaugural commission program, Arizona Spark and will receive a second workshop in September of 2016.
Mr. Borzoni has composed songs and song cycles for many leading vocalists, and was the featured composer in the Expositions :: SLC concert series, which included a full evening of his vocal music and the world premiere of a song cycle. His music has been performed across America, and the songs he wrote for Randal Turner’s CD, Living American Composers, were performed during the 9/11 tribute at the U.S. embassy in Switzerland. He wrote the music for the musical My Life as a Bald Soprano, which had an Off-Broadway run at the Midtown International Theater Festival. Song premieres in 2016 will include baritone Marco Vassalli (Musica Marin, San Francisco) and tenor Mitchell Sturges (Assembly Hall, Salt Lake City).
A resident artist in the American Lyric Theater’s Composer Librettist Development Program, Mr. Borzoni has also been honored with the Morton Feldman Award, the Boston Metro Opera Festival Award, and was the winner of operamission’s cabaret song competition. He has recently been commissioned by the Delaware Art Museum, the Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band, and the Foundation for the Advancement of Baritones. In addition he was also an associate producer for Patricia Racette’s CD, Diva on Detour.
Mr. Borzoni is the current Composer-in-Residence for Musica Marin, a nonprofit organization that presents, supports and inspires classical music in Marin and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. He studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Del Tredici at the City University of New York, and received his BA and MA in Music Composition. He lives and works as a composer and teacher in New York City.
