Kerry Lengel of The Arizona Republic writes about the Arizona Opera season opening, Maria de Buenos Aires.

Maria goes through life starting as a peasant girl in a small town in Argentina with a dream of being moving to the big city and turning into this amazing woman that all the women want to be like her and all the men want to be with her. Maria’s story doesn’t have a happy ending — this is still opera, after all — but the surreal narrative makes room for more than just tragedy.
