Have a mind for business innovation? Join the OnPitch Business Challenge for a chance to win $25,000.
The OnPitch Business Challenge seeks out the most innovative proposals for new earned revenue sources to be implemented by Arizona Opera.
Arizona Opera aims to revolutionize our art form’s generations-old funding model by working with experts and innovators across multiple fields to identify meaningful new earned revenue sources, decreasing reliance on ticket sales and donations.
We are attacking this challenge through a venture capital-inspired competition in association with Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts and W.P. Carey School of Business. Innovators from around the US are invited to develop funding concepts to be implemented by Arizona Opera, have their ideas vetted by entrepreneurial experts affiliated with ASU, and a group of finalists will subsequently pitch their proposals in a public event to a panel of business leaders.
Proposals can include revenue generation from a wide range of sources, and does not need to be tied directly to opera. Successful solutions can range from better utilizing existing company assets (theater space, sets and costumes, video wall) to operating a completely separate for-profit entity. Applicants are encouraged to be as creative as possible.
$25,000 in prize money will be awarded.
$100,000 is dedicated to implement a winning concept.
Made possible by an OPERA America Innovation Grant, supported by the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation.
