Arizona Opera's Director of Education hosts a two-session class, with music and video examples, to discuss the history of opera and what you should to listen to when you attend a performance.
Opera is more than Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd screeching Figaro and Flight of the Valkyries. Opera, Borths says, is the ultimate art form because it combines all other disciplines into one incredible work.

In the second class, learn how the operas produced in the nineteenth century were shaped by Romanticism — "the art of wearing your heart on your sleeve." Borths shows you how Romanticism lead to the overrwhelming passion and "big ideas" found in the works of Bel Canto, Verdi, Meyerbeer, and Wagner, and how those works influence — and plague — the modern masterpieces created today.
